A North Wales man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly attempted to rob a bank in Montgomery Township, but then changed his mind and made a $20 withdrawal from his debit card instead.

Tim Miller, 52, of the 300 block of West Walnut Street, has been charged with one felony count of robbery – demanding money from a financial institution, along with two summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with the investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police were dispatched to Citizens Bank—located along the 1200 block of Knapp Road—at 12:20 p.m. for a report of an attempted robbery from an aggressive customer that occurred one hour prior. Once on scene, bank employees informed police that a man whom they did not recognize as a customer—later identified as Miller— approached a teller, slammed a white envelope onto the counter and then said “fill it up,” the report states.

Miller then allegedly slammed the envelop on the counter a second time, again saying “fill it up,” before putting his hand in his pocket and pointing it at two employees as if he had a weapon, police said. The report states that Miller then removed his glasses, scrunched his eyes and asked “Do I look like a robber now?”

The report states that the bank employees were both startled and threatened by the incident, and feared for their lives and safety.

After a few minutes passed, Miller reportedly said “I’m just kidding. I have a card,” then used his debit card to withdrawal $20 before leaving the building.

Miller was arraigned Thursday evening by Magisterial District Judge Juanita Price, who set bail at $25,000 unsecured. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy on June 12 at 1:15 p.m.
