Cause of Last Week’s Fire in Montgomery Township Remains Under Investigation

The cause of a residential fire that occurred last week in Montgomery Township remains under investigation by the Montgomery Township Fire Marshal’s Office.

Emergency personnel were initially dispatched to the 100 block of Copperleaf Circle at 8:23 p.m. on Oct. 3 for a report of a residential fire. Dispatch notes indicated that the fire had started in a second-floor bedroom.

“[Upon arrival], crews were met with heavy fire showing from the second floor,” said Bill Wiegman, a battalion chief with the Fire Department of Montgomery Township. “[We] engaged in an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the fire.”

The fire was placed under control roughly one hour later, but not before causing extensive damage to the home. Fortunately, residents were able to safely evacuate and no injuries were reported at the scene, and Wiegman added that representatives from the American Red Cross were on-scene to assist the family.

Assisting units at the scene include fire companies from Warrington, Horsham, Wissahickon, Upper Dublin, North Penn, Colmar, Upper Gwynedd, Lansdale, Chalfont, Hartsville and Center Square, as well as units from the Montgomery Township Police Department and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.
