A Lansdale man who violently assaulted his girlfriend last December is headed to prison, following a negotiated plea agreement with prosecutors.
Jacob Greiner, 28, of the unit block of East Main Street, plead guilty to one felony count of strangulation at a status hearing on Nov. 7, just days before his case was set to go to jury trial. Charges of simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, possession of an instrument of crime, assault of a law enforcement officer and additional strangulation charges were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea, according to court records.
A felony aggravated assault charge was dropped during Greiner’s preliminary hearing earlier this year.
As a result of the agreement, Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Todd Eisenberg sentenced Greiner to 2-to-5-years in prison, followed by probation. Judge Eisenberg also instructed to Greiner to have no further contact with the victim, and ordered him to undergo drug and alcohol treatment.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Dec. 19, 2018, in which Greiner violently attacked his then-girlfriend following a verbal argument.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim—a female in her 20’s—entered the Lansdale Borough Police Station in the late afternoon hours on Dec. 19, 2018, to report a domestic violence assault. The victim was reportedly crying and visibly upset, and had swollen lips and red marks around her neck.
The victim informed police that the incident began with a verbal argument between the her and her boyfriend—identified as Jacob Greiner. The report states that during the arguement, Greiner got angry and punched the victim in the right side of her head with a closed fist several times, and then began to punch her in the legs, causing her to fall. Greiner then allegedly began choking the victim with her scarf, before pushing her down on the bed and covering her mouth and nose with his hands while she screamed for him to stop.
The victim attempted to fend off Greiner, and when a neighbor knocked at the door, she bashed Greiner's head into the door lock and ran out of the apartment. She then left without shoes, contacted her mother and went to the police station.
Following the statement she gave to police, the victim went to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
