Man Charged with Felony DUI, Following Crash in Towamencin Sunday Morning

A Towamencin man is facing felony DUI charges after he allegedly crashed his vehicle late Sunday morning.

According to Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Dickinson, police were dispatched to the intersection of Kareve Drive and Chadbourne Court for a report of a vehicle crash at 10:51 a.m. on Nov. 10. Police said that a white pickup truck driven by 46-year-old Joseph Yodis, of the 500 block of Harrington Court, was allegedly negotiating a left curve at a high rate of speed when it drove over the sidewalk and struck three trees.

No injuries were reported, though Dickinson said both the vehicle and the trees sustained damage as a result of the crash. Yodis was then taken into custody, and the vehicle was towed from the scene at 11:43 a.m., police said.

Police allegedly recovered a plastic bottle containing vodka from Yodis’ truck, according to the criminal complaint, and a portable breath test indicated that Yodis had a blood-alcohol content of .12-percent at the time of his arrest, the report states.

As a result of the crash, Yodis has been charged with one felony count of DUI, along with summary counts of careless driving, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and driving while blood-alcohol content is above .02 while license suspended. (Note: the felony charge is a result of Yodis having three prior DUI convictions in the last 10 years, according to the criminal complaint.)

Yodis was arraigned later that day by Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Rebar, who set bail at $5,000 cash. Yodis was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

Lower Salford Police assisted Towamencin Police at the scene, according to Dickinson.
