Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele has announced the arrest of 53-year-old Frank Maley, of Norristown, in connection with a string of bank robberies that occurred between Sept. 14 and Oct. 12.
According to the press release, charges against Maley stem from the following bank robberies:
Law enforcement allegedly connected Maley to the bank robberies in a number of ways, including his maroon 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck, which has damage to the right-front bumper. Witnesses informed investigators that they allegedly saw the truck in the vicinity of the banks as they were being robbed, and on one occasion, a concerned citizen may have prevented a robbery from occurring by allegedly engaging Maley outside of the bank, and taking photos of the truck prior to him leaving, the release states.
“The arrest of Maley was the result of help from a concerned citizen, who may have foiled an attempted bank robbery, as well as a good, multi-jurisdictional investigation by law enforcement, including the FBI,” said Steele. “We are thankful for the help of the concerned citizen, as well as multiple eyewitnesses who helped this investigation. Montgomery County residents know that sharing what they see and observe with law enforcement is key in keeping our communities safe, and getting criminals off the street.”
Additionally, investigators used video surveillance, clothing and eyewitness accounts regarding the suspect walking in a distinct manner with an abnormal gait, to establish Maley as their prime suspect, according to the release.
As a result of the investigation, Maley has been charged with four felony counts each of robbery-threat of immediate and serious injury, robbery-taking property from others by force, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Maley is additionally facing four misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, according to court records.
Maley was arraigned on Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m. by Magisterial District Judge Marc Alfarano, who set bail at $250,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Alfarano on Nov. 21 at 10:15 a.m.
