Two Philadelphia men are facing felony retail theft charges after they allegedly stole costumes from the Spirit Halloween store in Montgomery Township.
According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police were dispatched to 980 Bethlehem Pike on Oct. 29 at 7:20 p.m. for a reported theft in progress. Dispatch informed police that the actors—later identified as 30-year-old Terrence Massey and 30-year-old Tyreef Williams—fled the store and were leaving in a white Chevy Malibu, police said.
Upon arrival, police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, the report states. A second officer spoke to the store’s manager, who stated that Massey and Williams allegedly entered the store, selected various items and then exited without payment. The manager was then driven to the location of the traffic stop, where they allegedly positively identified Massey and Williams as the suspects, the report states.
Massey and Williams were both placed under arrest. Total value of items stolen was $403.91, police said.
As a result of the incident, both Massey and Williams were charged with one felony count of retail theft and one felony count of receiving stolen property. Both men had at least three prior retail theft convictions, which is why the charges are at the felony level, according to the report.
Williams and Massey were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Deborah Lukens, who set bail at $1,000 cash for Massey and $2,000 cash for Williams. Both men were then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
Their next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 12 at 10:15 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
