Bethlehem Pike Shutdown in Hatfield Due to Vehicle Fire [UPDATED]

UPDATE: May 28, 3:15 p.m. - The scene has been cleared, and the road is now open in both directions.

UPDATE: May 28, 1:09 p.m. - Per the Hatfield Township Police Department, the southbound lanes of Bethlehem Pike remain closed between Trewigtown Road and Advance Lane while repair work is being performed. The northbound lanes have reopened.

UPDATE: May 28, 10:11 a.m. - Crews remain at the scene, and the road is expected to be closed for an extended period, per our source. The victim that was to be airlifted was instead transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital via ambulance, due to the helicopter being grounded. 

A second victim has been transported from the scene via ambulance to Lansdale Hospital.

Bethlehem Pike has been closed between Walnut Street and Line Lexington Road in Hatfield due to a vehicle fire.

Crews were dispatched to the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Trewigtown Road at 8:45 a.m. for a report of a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, first responders encountered a vehicle engulfed in flames, as well as a downed telephone pole. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

Sources have told North Penn Now that one victim is being airlifted from the scene via JeffSTAT due to injuries and burns. The road remains closed at this time, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Units from Hatfield Township Police Department, Colmar Fire Company, Lansdale Volunteer Medical Services Corps and JeffSTAT responded to the scene.
