(The following is a Letter to the Editor from the North Penn VIEWS, regarding their school board candidates in the 2019 primary election. Editorial submissions can be sent to [email protected].)
Dear North Penn School District Voter,
This year’s spring primary election for Director of the North Penn School District finds the district, its parents and taxpayers, at a fork in the road: Do we continue down a path of well-intended but unsustainable long term borrowing and spending? Or do we hit “the pause button” to make sure we are succeeding at striking the delicate balance between the needs of the students and the ability of the tax payers to fund?
Not all problems can be solved by “throwing money at them.” We need to find creative and effective solutions that will maximize the value of limited tax money. The current trajectory for North Penn School District borrowing is unsustainable. It is critical that we focus spending on students, not unnecessary expenditures, and halt out-of-control taxing, borrowing and spending.
As your Republican candidates for North Penn School District Director, we have pledged to fight to:
• Provide outstanding education for our children.
• Focus spending on the students, not unnecessary expenditures.
• Recognize the limits of our taxpayers, especially our seniors on fixed incomes.
• Halt the out-of-control taxing, borrowing and spending plans of the current North Penn School Board.
It is with these pledges that we ask for your votes on May 21.
Your Republican candidates for four year terms:
• David Kresge
• Karen Calvanese
• Jennifer Breen
• Daniel Bell
• Michelle Rupp
Your Republican candidate for a two year term:
• Edward “Ned” Smith
