A Philadelphia woman was arrested early Tuesday morning, after Montgomery Township Police allegedly discovered drugs during a traffic stop on Bethlehem Pike.
Cindy Cruz, 37, has been charged with felony counts of possession with intent to distribute and criminal use of a communication facility, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with the incident.
According to the criminal complaint, police encountered a blue Kia traveling southbound on Bethlehem Pike with an inoperable brake light at 3:39 a.m. Upon initiating the traffic stop, police made contact with the driver and the passenger, who was later identified as Cruz. The report states that there was drug paraphernalia in plain view, and when the driver was asked to exit the vehicle for a search, he complied and handed over a bad of marijuana.
The report states that Cruz attempted to hide a small plastic vial of marijuana from police while exiting the vehicle, but later turned it over. During the search of the vehicle, police uncovered four different types of pills in various quantities, including oxycodone, amphetamines and clonazepam, along with several packages of marijuana and a small amount of cash, according to the report.
Cruz was taken into custody, where she allegedly admitted to the pills being hers, the report states.
As a result of the investigation, Cruz was arraigned on all charges on May 7 by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $25,000 cash. Cruz was then taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
Her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. on May 21 in front of Judge Duffy.
