One Student Charged in Penndale Lockdown, Investigation Continues

A Penndale Middle School student has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property, after they were captured on school surveillance video placing a BB gun into their locker.

According to a release from the Lansdale Borough Police Department, police were dispatched to the school—located at 400 Penn Street— at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, after school security reported that they had found a BB gun inside the school. A lockdown of the school was then implemented, as police and school staff worked to identify the student and ensure that there were no other weapons inside of the school.

During the initial investigation and search, police uncovered a total of three BB guns, including the one that was seen on the surveillance footage. No injuries were reported during the incident.

In addition to the weapons charge, the student—whose name and information is being withheld due to being a juvenile—has also been charged with possession of an instrument of crime.

The release states that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed in the future.

“I commend Penndale staff for their swift response to the situation, and students for following lockdown procedures in an orderly fashion,” said Dr. Sean O’Sullivan, principal of Penndale Middle School. “I ask that parents discuss with their students the seriousness of bringing any weapon to school, and the disciplinary consequences of those actions.”
