UPDATE: May 7, 1:38 p.m. – The Harleysville Community Fire Company has issued the following statement:
“We are saddened to hear of the arrest of Paul Resnick, in connection with the fire at his residence on April 4, 2019. We know the public will understand that we do not want to interfere with the investigation and prosecution by making further comment. Mr. Resnick had been suspended with intent to terminate from the fire company, and he has since resigned.”

A local volunteer firefighter has been charged with insurance fraud and arson, after he allegedly burned down his Harleysville home in early April.Paul Resnick, 43, has been charged with felony counts of arson-danger of death or bodily injury, arson-intent to collect insurance, risking catastrophe and filing a fraudulent insurance claim, as well as eight misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, in connection with the investigation by the Lower Salford Police Department.
According to a report by Fox29, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office stated that Resnick intentionally burned down his home along the 300-block of Huckleberry Lane on April 4. Resnick, who has more than 20 years of service as a volunteer firefighter, was an associate member of the Harleysville Fire Company, and had previously served with the Fire Department of Montgomery Township and the Wissahickon Fire Company in Ambler.
Resnick was arraigned this morning by Magisterial District Judge Albert Augustine, who set bail at $2,500 unsecured. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 22 at noon in front of Judge Augustine.
