A Hatfield man has plead guilty to multiple felony charges, stemming from a violent sexual assault that occurred in May 2018 at Brookside Manor Apartments.
David Andrew Mendenko, 28, of the unit block of Crestwood Court, faces up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to felony sexual assault and strangulation charges, in connection with the incident. Additional charges of rape, aggravated and simple assault, indecent assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea, according to Carl Hessler Jr. at The Reporter.
Police initially responded to Mendenko’s residence during the early-morning hours of May 5, 2018, for a report of a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, police found a female victim, who stated that Mendenko had attempted to rape her after the two returned to his apartment from a local bar, according to the report. Despite being choked multiple times to the point of losing consciousness, the victim was eventually able to secure a knife and use it to free herself by slashing Mendenko across his right arm, the report states.
She then escaped the apartment and found assistance at a nearby residence.
Mendenko’s sentencing hearing was deferred to later this year by Judge Steven T. O’Neill, who also ordered that Mendenko undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation prior to the hearing, according to the report. Judge O’Neill also ordered that Mendenko be held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail, and he is to have no contact with the victim.
