Pennsylvania Hindu Temple Inc. has received approval from Lansdale Borough Council to occupy a former church location on Broad Street, following a brief conditional use hearing on Wednesday night.
According Pankaj Seal, who owns the property, the building will serve as a Hindu Temple for a small congregation of roughly 15 families, with eight of them residing in Lansdale and the rest in Hatfield. Seal said the primary worship days would be Saturday and Sunday, with services usually occurring in the evening.
“We’re a very small community,” said Seal. “We don’t anticipate much growth.”
The building—located at 301 North Broad Street— is currently in use as a professional office space with attached apartments, but with the conditional use approval, the building will now return to religious use.
Minor concerns about parking availability were raised by Councilman Leon Angelichio in regards to times of worship, but counsel for Pennsylvania Hindu Temple Inc. stated that the building has a private lot with nine to 11 spaces, and agreements were being worked out with neighboring commercial buildings to handle any parking overflow.
The conditional use request was then granted via a unanimous vote by borough council.
