A Pottstown man has plead guilty to executing an extended embezzlement scheme against his employer in Lansdale.
Pedro Arcay, 49, of Pottstown, entered an open guilty plea in Montgomery County Court to a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking, according to a report by Carl Hessler at the Pottstown Mercury. The charge stems from a seven year embezzlement scheme in which Arcay stole $240,928 while he was an employee of Netcarrier.
According to the criminal complaint, Lansdale Police were contacted by Netcarrier in October, stating that an employee who had been recently terminated—identified as Arcay, a 13-year employee and the Accounts Payable Manager—had embezzled thousands of dollars while he was employed there.
An investigation was then launched, which uncovered that between 2011 and 2018, Arcay had made unauthorized purchases using the company’s credit card, to a total of $240,928.09. The report states that—in an effort to conceal the unauthorized purchases—Arcay made copies of the original bank statements, cut out the names of legitimately payable businesses and then glued them on top of the unauthorized purchases.
The report also states that Arcay used the card to pay personal bills, loans, and even a family vacation to Disney World.
The open guilty plea means that Arcay has no deal in place in regards to sentencing. He is currently facing a maximum possible sentence of 5-to-10-years in prison, though Judge Todd D. Eisenberg deferred sentencing so that officials can conduct a background investigation, according to the Mercury.
Additional felony and misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property, unauthorized access device use and tampering with records were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea. Arcay remains out on bail as he awaits his sentencing hearing later this year.
