Six-Vehicle Accident on Bethlehem Pikes Leaves One Injured

A driver involved in a six-vehicle accident on Bethlehem Pike was airlifted for treatment of injuries on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at 8:44 a.m.. along the 2000 block of Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Township. Responding officers from the Hatfield Township Police Department found a gold Kia Sorento with heavy front-end damage, and an injured driver who was trapped inside. The driver was then extricated from the vehicle, and airlifted via JeffSTAT to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of lower extremity and internal injuries.

Reports indicate that the Kia was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Bethlehem Pike. Police said the vehicle traveled through the intersection with Sterling Drive, and then struck four oncoming vehicles before striking a fifth—a Ford box truck—and coming to rest. The investigation by the Hatfield Township Police Department’s Highway Safety Unit is ongoing.

Hatfield Township Police were assisted at the scene by Hilltown Township Police, Volunteer Medical Services Corps, Hatfield and Hilltown fire companies, JeffSTAT helicopter and fire police from Hilltown and Souderton.
