A Pottstown man who plead guilty in March to executing an extended embezzlement scheme against his employer in Lansdale has been sentenced to prison.
Pedro Arcay, 49, was sentenced on Friday to 90-days-to-23-months in county jail, followed by five years of probation, following his open guilty plea to a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking in March. According to Carl Hessler Jr. of the Pottstown Mercury, Arcay will report to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on July 12, and can serve the minimum sentence over the course of 45 consecutive weekends.
According to the criminal complaint, Lansdale Police were contacted by Netcarrier in October 2018, stating that an employee who had been recently terminated—identified as Arcay, a 13-year employee and the Accounts Payable Manager—had embezzled thousands of dollars while he was employed there.
An investigation was then launched, which uncovered that between 2011 and 2018, Arcay had made unauthorized purchases using the company’s credit card, to a total of $240,928.09. The report states that—in an effort to conceal the unauthorized purchases—Arcay made copies of the original bank statements, cut out the names of legitimately payable businesses and then glued them on top of the unauthorized purchases.
The report also states that Arcay used the card to pay personal bills, loans, and even a family vacation to Disney World.
The open guilty plea meant that Arcay had no deal in place in regards to sentencing. He was facing a maximum possible sentence of 5-to-10-years in prison. Additional felony and misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property, unauthorized access device use and tampering with records were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
