Members of the Fairmount Fire Company are gearing up for the 28th Annual “Under The Lights” Car Show this Saturday.
The event is scheduled for June 15 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and serves as one of two large-scale fundraisers for the 100-percent volunteer fire company. According Ian Fickert, who serves on the car show committee, the fire company is anticipating upwards of 300 to 400 vehicles participating in this year’s event.
“It is very important to the fire company to help raise funds, continue to maintain and purchase new equipment, and provide the needed training for all members,” said Fickert.
Vehicle owners who are looking to pre-register for the event can do so online at the fire company’s website for a fee of $13. Additionally, participants can register on the day of the event for a fee of $15 by visiting the staging area on Cannon Avenue.
“We ask that all participants, pre-registered or not, use Whites Road to Cannon Avenue on the day of the show,” said Fickert. “This is a new set up this year.”
The car show serves as one of Lansdale’s largest annual events, drawing thousands of spectators each year. Planning for the event begins in January, Fickert said, and the event itself requires the efforts of nearly 30 members of the fire company and their families.
In addition to the allure of viewing hundreds of vehicles, the car show will also feature vendors, an array of food options and more.
Road Closure Announcements
The “Under the Lights” Car Show will occur on West Main Street, between the intersection with Broad Street and the intersection with Valley Forge Road.
Lansdale Borough Police have announced that Main Street will be closed between those two intersections from 4 p.m. on Saturday to midnight on Sunday, to additionally allow for setup and breakdown of the event.
Additionally, South Cannon Avenue will be closed from Whites Road to Main Street from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., to allow for staging of the vehicles prior to the event.
