Coroner Identifies Construction Worker Who Died on Turnpike

Montgomery County officials have identified the worker who died in a construction-related accident along the turnpike on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, Richard Maurer, 69, of Telford, was killed on June 5 while he was working at a construction site near the Lansdale/Kulpsville exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Reports state that Maurer died from blunt force trauma, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

State police said on Wednesday that the death occurred within the construction zone, and was not a result of vehicles passing by.

According to Maurer’s obituary on the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home website, Maurer had worked as a civil engineer for PennDOT for 35 years, and continued to work as a consultant in his retirement. Maurer, who had celebrated his 22nd wedding anniversary earlier this year, is survived by his wife, two daughters, a step-son, eight grandchildren, two brothers and a niece.
