Driver Believed to be Under the Influence of Drugs at Time of Sunday’s Crash: Police

Lansdale Borough Police have released some of the details from their investigation into a single vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday at the 709 Market on North Wales Road.

According to the release, police were dispatched to the scene at 6:03 p.m. for a report of a crash with a vehicle into a building. Upon arrival, police found that a Ford pickup truck had struck the front window of the 709 Market, and the male driver was found unresponsive.

Sources tell North Penn Now that the driver of the vehicle was traveling from the auto parts store across the street, struck a street sign and a light pole at the entrance to the 709 Market parking lot, then fell out of the vehicle prior to the vehicle striking the storefront.

The driver sustained head trauma as a result of the incident, and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown, and his identity has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate that the driver was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, according to Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail.

Trail said that once police have completed their investigation, they will provide a full press release. Units from the Fairmount Fire Company and Lansdale Volunteer Medical Services Corps assisted at the scene.
