Rittenhouse Road to Reopen Next Week as One-Way Only, Passenger Vehicles Only

(Note: The following is a press release from Towamencin Township.)

Last Thursday, July 18th, Towamencin Township had to close a portion of Rittenhouse Road due to damages sustained to an existing stone arch bridge culvert on Rittenhouse Road, approximately 200 feet northwest of the intersection with Old Forty Foot Road in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, PA. The damages resulted from a truck colliding into the west side-wall of the bridge culvert, causing it to collapse into the stream.

The township’s structural engineer has sanctioned the reopening of the road, but limiting traffic over the “intact” portion of the culvert to passenger vehicles only. Due to the extent of the damages caused by the truck, engineers have recommended replacing the culvert in the long term. The associated timeframe for the required state permitting, bid process and construction is estimated to be 18 months.

As briefed to the Towamencin Township Board of Supervisors during their monthly business meeting on July 24th, the township intends to reopen Rittenhouse Road during the week of July 29th in a westbound “one-way only” capacity, from Old Forty Foot Road to Clemens Road.
