As many of you have been aware, Lansdale Borough Council and I are working on passing an expansion of our ordinance regarding permit parking. This expansion will allow our community to implement permit parking on the following streets, Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., preliminarily beginning on Sept. 9:
After Sept. 9, Lansdale Police will ease the community into this change through a warning period where those without permits will be notified clearly of the change. After the warning period concludes, tickets will begin to be issued to anyone without a permit parked in the zones listed above during those time periods.
I would like to thank the community for their support and constructive feedback on this issue. We, Chief Trail and myself, have received many questions and concerns about how this program will be implemented. Below is a sample of those more frequently asked questions and the answers to them.
How much will a permit cost? Permits will be free.
How do I obtain a permit? You can visit the police station in person or online at Lansdale.org.
How many permits am I allowed? As many as you need if you can prove residency in the area.
What about guest passes? Notify the police department about needing a temporary pass either in person or by calling.
It is crucial that we continue to have this back and forth on how to best implement this program. No one expects this to be perfect from the beginning. There will be adjustments needed and alterations to be made. Streets may need to be added or subtracted to ensure effectiveness. However, we now have a place to begin and improve upon.
With SEPTA beginning to charge in their garage (even though it is minimal), we fully expect that commuters will look for free parking on side streets. This program gives our community the ability to protect parking for residents while also encouraging the use of the SEPTA garage for its intended purpose.
