Drunken Hatfield Man Attempts to Stab Friend, Charged with Aggravated Assault: Police

Hatfield Township Police have announced the arrest of 57-year-old Isaac Abbot, in connection with an alleged assault with a knife that occurred last Friday night.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to the 2600 block of Elroy Road at 10:35 p.m. on July 12 for a report of an assault involving a knife. Upon arrival, the victim told police that they were drinking alcohol with Abbott, but when the victim asked Abbott to leave so they could go to bed, Abbott became angry and started a verbal altercation, the report states.

The victim reportedly told Abbott to leave multiple times, at which point Abbott allegedly grabbed a small pocket knife from a night stand and lunged towards the victim with the blade open. The report states that the victim was able to wrestle the knife away from Abbott, but sustained a cut to the bottom side of his left hand in the process. A fist fight then ensued, with both Abbott and the victim exchanging punches, the report states.

A sober witness at the scene corroborated the victim’s story, and said once Abbott and the victim were separated, Abbott fled the scene on his bicycle, according to the report.

Police located Abbott on his bicycle on Elroy Road, describing him as visibly intoxicated with slurred speech, according to the report. He was then taken into custody, the report states.

As a result of the incident, Abbott has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and public drunkenness.

Abbot was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Edward Kropp Sr., who set bail at $5,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine on Aug. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
