Police Search for Missing Man Ends in Suicide in Souderton

A man has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, following a multi-department police search earlier this afternoon in Souderton.

According to sources, members of the Franconia Township Police Department began a search for a missing  male who was reportedly suicidal, near the 100 block of Souderton Hatfield Pike earlier this afternoon. Reports indicate police were looking for an older man, who was potentially armed.

Units from Souderton, Lower Salford, Lansdale, Hatfield and Towamencin police departments were enlisted to help with the search, which focused on an area along the train tracks, sources said.

Then, around 2:37 p.m., police responded to the area of the 100 block of Cherry Lane for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival to the scene, police found the body of the missing man in a wooded area.

Sources tell North Penn Now that the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Members of the Perseverance Fire Company were then called to the scene to retrieve the body, sources said.

No one else was harmed during the incident. The identity of the victim is being withheld due to the nature of the incident, and will not be released.
