Local Landscaper Comes to Aid of Veteran Needing Help with Flag Pole

The owner of a local landscaping company is receiving widespread praise after he assisted a veteran who needed help raising a flag at his home in Lansdale.

The situation began late Monday morning, when the Montco News Feed Facebook page shared an image from Jenn Czulada seeking assistance in helping a veteran with a flagpole issue at his home along the 600-block of Derstine Avenue. The post explained that help was needed in restringing and hanging the flag, and a bucket truck would be needed due to the 25 foot height of the pole.

As the post made its way around Facebook, it finally reached 19-year-old Charlie Harris—an Eagle Scout and owner of Charlie’s Lawncare. Harris, with the help of his friend Roy, took his bucket truck over to the home, and was able to both restore the rope and raise the flag.

“I am very proud of my son for stepping up and answering the call,” said Michelle Harris, Charlie’s mother. “He loves the community that he lives in, and is always willing to give back to them.”

Once the job was complete, Czulada posted a collage of the work being done, which quickly circulated on Facebook via Montco News Feed, North Penn Now and other pages.

“Charlies Lawn Care of Lansdale to the rescue,” said Jim Plunkett, a moderator on the Montco News Feed page. “We put up a post up earlier today about a retired vet needing help with a flag pole. Charlie and Roy showed up to help restore the rope and hang the flag! This is what local business and friends are all about! Great work out there guys!”

Reaction from the public was unanimously positive, with many showering praise on Charlie and his act of kindness.

“Love this. Let's work together,” said Robin Dennis. “This is what makes America great.”

For Charlie Harris, helping the local community has become a fairly routine endeavor. He’s also recently provided free landscaping work for the Garden of Health food pantry, and he also volunteered to cut the grass for the pregnant wife of a local servicemember who was deployed overseas last year.
