Saint Stanislaus Church, in tandem with the Mater Dei Catholic Youth Organization, held a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, with all proceeds going to the family of 12-year-old Will Albright, who is battling an aggressive form of bone cancer.
“The car wash was spectacular,” said Lynda Robbins Albright, Will’s mother. “We were completely overwhelmed with emotions, never imagining all the support we would have to help our son Will.”
The event was organized by members of the Mater Dei CYO, with support and assistance from Lansdale Borough Councilwoman Carrie Hawkins Charlton, Bergey's Chevorlet and others. In total, volunteers raised more than $5,200 in donations during the four hour fundraiser, which featured appearances from Pennsylvania State Rep. Steve Malagari, Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert and Lansdale Police Chief Michael Trail.
“They say it takes a village to care for someone with cancer,” said Lynda Robbins Albright. “The way the community came together ensured us that we have a village behind us to help support in any way possible.”
Will Albright was recently diagnosed with the fast-spreading osteosarcoma, and wrapped up his fourth week of chemotherapy roughly two weeks ago. Following the diagnosis, his mother began posting frequent updates to her Facebook page regarding her son’s condition, and his older brother, Dan Robbins, launched a GoFundMe in an effort to generate online donations.
“We would especially like to thank to Mater Dei CYO, St Stanislaus Church, the Lansdale Police Department, Mayor Garry Herbert, State Rep. Steve Malagari and North Penn Now, along with all our friends and family,” said Lynda Robbins Albright. “We feel truly blessed to live in such a supportive community!”
As Will continues his fight against osteosarcoma, the GoFundMe page will continue to accept donations. In the event you may have missed the car wash but would like to make a donation, please click here.
