East Hancock Street in Lansdale to be Closed During Daytime Hours for Road Work

Lansdale Borough officials have announced the start date for road construction in the Pennbrook area.

Work is set to begin on East Hancock Street beginning July 15 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., and will also include efforts from the North Penn Water Authority to improve the sewer and water system. Traffic modification measures will be in place, and motorists are asked to follow the posted detour routes.

The roadwork is expected to continue throughout the summer.

“We are aware that this is an inconvenience, but the end product of improved underground infrastructure and well-maintained roads is worth the investment,” said the Borough, in a release.

Community Meeting to Be Held on North Cannon/Pennbrook Roadwork

With the upcoming road projects for North Cannon Avenue and the Pennbrook area, the borough will hold a community meeting to meet with neighbors in affected areas to share project details, projected timelines and listen to any questions or concerns from residents.

The meeting for both neighborhoods will take place on July 18, with discussion about the Pennbrook area running from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the North Cannon Avenue area running from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Affected streets in the Pennbrook area will include:

  • Cedar Street
  • Wade Avenue
  • Cypress Street
  • Spruce Street
  • Pennbrook Avenue
  • Clay Avenue
  • Webster Avenue
  • Cherry Street

Borough officials, staff and engineers will be in attendance, along with representatives from North Penn Water Authority. Please mark your calendars so that you can hear about the projects and voice any concerns.

Line Street and Future Road Projects

Road work along Line Street is scheduled for this summer, sometime between July and August, depending on weather. The paving itself should only take a few days to complete, according to officials.

On the Lansdale Borough website, the Department of Community Development provides a five-year view of future roadway projects, so that residents have an idea as to when construction will occur, and when their curbs and sidewalks need to be in compliance.

“Over the last few years, our Community Development Department has taken a proactive, forward-looking approach to funding, planning and managing our road projects, with a minimum of a five-year-look-ahead,” said Denton Burnell, Lansdale Borough Council President. “They are constantly improving and refining that approach over time, and have done an excellent job of maximizing available capital funds.”

“With this plan, residents are able to see at a glance when road projects are coming to their neighborhood,” said Burnell. “This plan is also updated as staff become aware of new realities that may affect timing or the effectiveness of the currently planned approach, including things like North Penn Water Authority or other utility projects.”
