Details Released in Saturday’s Motorcycle Crash on Bethlehem Pike

Hatfield Township Police have released the details of a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday afternoon along Bethlehem Pike near the intersection with Unionville Pike.

According to the release, police were dispatched to the scene at 3:55 p.m. for a report of a two-vehicle accident with injuries. The investigation concluded that a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle had been traveling southbound through the intersection when a gray Chevrolet Impala turned left into the Wawa from the northbound lane, crossing directly in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle applied his brakes, which resulted in the motorcycle falling onto its right side and caused the driver to impact the rear quarter-panel of the Chevrolet, according to the report.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the motorcycle sustained head trauma and other injuries, according to sources. The driver—described as a 40-to-50-year-old male—was found lying face down on the road, bleeding from his mouth and nose, and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to those same sources. He was then airlifted via PennSTAR to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the report states.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Impala were uninjured, according to the report.

Assisting agencies at the include Hilltown Township Police, Volunteer Medical Services Corp, Hilltown Fire Company, Hatfield Fire Company, Souderton Fire Company, Souderton, Colmar, and Fairmount Fire Police, and PennSTAR helicopter.
