An off-duty Lansdale Police officer was stabbed during an incident that occurred along Route 309 in Richland Township earlier this morning.
According to reports, the incident began with a 9-1-1 call regarding an erratic person walking along Route 309 in Richland Township. Police responded to the scene, and the suspect pulled a knife, ran into a nearby CVS and pulled the fire alarm, according to reports.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot, running down Route 309 when an off-duty officer from the Lansdale Borough Police Department attempted to stop them. The suspect then stabbed the officer in the shoulder, according to reports.
According to a release from the Lansdale Borough Police Department, the officer’s injuries are not life-threatening, and they are expected to make a full recovery. The officer’s name has not been released, but Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail stated that the officer had been with the department for nine years, according to a report by WFMZ.
The suspect has since been taken into custody, and is expected to be charged on Friday, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
