Lansdale Borough has declared a snow emergency ahead of the snow and ice storm hitting the area this weekend.
The snow emergency is set to start at 12 p.m. on Saturday and will last until further notice. The end of the snow emergency will be posted on the Borough website and social media. Police chief Mike Trail will also be tweeting other important information.
Residents are required by law to move vehicles that indicate that there is no parking in the spot during snow alerts. The signs indicate which side of the street the parking restriction applies to. Residents who see a car parked in a Snow Alert Route are advised to contact Lansdale Police at 215-368-1800.
When clearing snow from sidewalks or private property, it is illegal to deposit the snow into borough streets. This applies to residents as well as businesses. Violators are subject to fines.
Crews have already been preparing for the storm by tackling known trouble spots and will be on call until after the snow emergency is lifted. Snow will be cleared throughout the storm, and one route can take up to eight hours. Residents are asked to be patient if their road has not been cleared right away.
Residents are reminded to stay away from downed wires, and to contact Lansdale Electric at 215-361-8371 or call 9-1-1 with the location. Residents should not, under any circumstance, attempt to lift, move or adjust downed wires.
The borough also asks residents to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance throughout the storm. House numbers need to be visible in case emergency responders can find those in need in an emergency.
