Local Nonprofit To Honor Community Volunteers

Integrate For Good, a local nonprofit, will host an awards ceremony to honor those in the community who have helped them get to where they are today.

Integrate For Good was started in July 2017. The organization provides opportunities through workshops and connecting people to volunteer opportunities, as well as creating volunteer opportunities. With the help of a federal grant, the organization supports nonprofits to be more inclusive.

“As I was working in North Penn School District and Souderton and Cheltenham and area school districts, I was working with students with disabilities and realized there was always a focus on the disability and what they couldn’t do, ” said Beverly Weinberg, the project director for Integrate For Good.

She saw that these children had strengths and abilities that were being overlooked in the light of their disabilities, and decided to create an outlet for them to show the community what they can do. This inspired her to start the organization, which will become its own nonprofit next month.

Their Community Hero Award ceremony was started after Integrate For Good’s leadership team realized just how many people in the community stepped up to help the organization become what it is today. The main award will be given to Teri Black, a volunteer with Angels In Motion, who helped get Integrate For Good’s sleeping mat project started. Several other people will be recognized for their efforts as well.

The ceremony will take place on Jan. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be held at the Indian Creek Foundation in Souderton. The event is free, but RSVPs are required so they know how much pizza to get. Those interested in attending can email Weinberg at [email protected].

Those who want to get involved but are unable to attend the ceremony can still help Integrate For Good in a variety of ways. They have the Sleeping Mat Project, where they use recycled plastic bags to create mats for those who are homeless due to the opioid crisis. Individuals can also donate baked goods for the organization’s events. Businesses can become partners with the organization to sponsor them. For more specific ways to get involved, email Weinberg to be connected to volunteer opportunities.

“I just want to make sure that people of all abilities have an opportunity to truly be part of the community,” said Weinberg.
