Lansdale Borough has received funding and rebates for electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging stations to help cut down on emissions.
In November 2018, Lansdale received $22,500 from Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection to purchase three electric vehicles to add to the Borough’s fleet.
“We are building a fleet for the future that provides benefits to our residents as well as the regional economy, increases energy independence, improves public health and protects the environment,” said Electric Superintendent and Fleet Manager Andrew Krauss. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and will continue to look for these funding opportunities.”
This week, Lansdale received the news that the Department of Environmental Protection also approved the Borough’s applications for rebates on five electronic charging stations. The total funds of the rebates will amount to $43,325, which will completely cover the purchase and installation costs for five charging stations.
The charging station locations include Lansdale Borough Hall, Borough Utilities Complex on Ninth Street, Vine Street Parking Lot, Susquehanna Parking Lot and along Madison Street. These locations were chosen for their convenience as well as their access to LED lighting and security camera feeds that are sent directly to the Lansdale Police Department.
“With more electric vehicles on our Borough roads than ever, our citizens are looking to minimize overall emissions and protect the quality of life in Lansdale,” said Borough Manager John J. Ernst. “These charging stations will serve to incentivize those who have made the investment and encourage more to make the switch to electric vehicles.”
