Mother Charged with Felonies After Leaving Infants Home Alone

A Towamencin mother is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after she allegedly left her two 11-month-old children home alone while she was running errands.

Jennifer Takara Lee, 34, has been charged with two felony counts of endangering the welfare of children and two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, in connection with the incident that occurred on Dec. 7.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Clemens Court at 1:15 p.m. for a report of two 11-month-old children that were found to be left unattended in a pack-and-play. Upon arrival, police encountered the children’s maternal grandmother, who said she had made the call. The grandmother informed police that that she arrived to Lee’s apartment around 1 p.m., but did not see her vehicle in the parking lot. The grandmother then entered the apartment, and found the two infants inside a pack-and-play on the second floor.

The report states that the grandmother made phone contact with Lee around 1:30 p.m., who stated that she was at Walgreens. When asked during their conversation why the children were left alone, Lee reportedly told her mother “I can’t take them everywhere I go.” Police would later make phone contact with Lee, who allegedly acknowledged that she left her children unsupervised due to being unable to find someone to watch them while she went to an appointment. Lee informed police that she had left the apartment shortly after noon, and anticipated that her appointment would last approximately 45 minutes.

Neither of the children were harmed during the incident.

Lee was arraigned on Dec. 14 at 1:45 p.m. by Magisterial District Judge Patty Zaffarano, who set bail at $5,000 cash. Lee was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, but was later released after being bailed out two days later. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16 at 11:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
