A Lansdale man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with a traffic stop along the 1100 block of Bethlehem Pike in Montgomery Township on Feb. 4.
According to the criminal complaint, police were on patrol when they encountered a blue Chevrolet sedan with heavy tint traveling northbound on Bethlehem Pike at 12:28 a.m. Police then initiated a traffic stop with the driver, identified as 36-year-old Kyle Stallworth.
The report states that police noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and it describes Stallworth as very nervous and sweating profusely. As police were gathering information during the stop, the report states that Stallworth made two calls from two separate phones to Montgomery County Dispatch, stating that armed subjects with guns were spotted at two different locations in Montgomery Township.
Despite the calls, police continued with the traffic stop and asked Stallworth to exit the vehicle before conducting a search of the suspect and his vehicle. The search allegedly yielded numerous empty pill bottles and baggies located in the trunk of the vehicle, but when police began to open a small, black grocery bag, Stallworth reportedly fled the scene on foot. After a brief chase, which crossed over the northbound and southbound lanes of Bethlehem Pike, one officer deployed their taser, which made contact with Stallworth, causing him to fall to the ground on the southbound shoulder.
Stallworth was taken into custody at 12:42 p.m., and police found packaged marijuana hidden in his groin, as well as a burnt marijuana blunt in his right sock, the report states. Police then continued their search of the trunk, uncovering more pill bottles, as well as zip lock bags containing marijuana and heroin, according to the report. Stallworth was then taken to Abington Lansdale Hospital for medical attention, and his vehicle was impounded for further search.
Stallworth was released from the hospital and transported to the Montgomery Township Police Department for processing. During that time, a records check showed that he was driving on a suspended license for DUI. Additionally, two phones that were allegedly found in Stallworth’s zip-up hoodie showed missed calls from county dispatch, stemming from the calls he allegedly placed earlier.
A search warrant was executed on the vehicle later that day, which lead to the discovery of a digital scale, $280 in cash and another empty pill bottle.
As a result of the incident, Stallworth has been charged with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, false alarm to agency of public safety and recklessly endangering another person, and summary charges of improper sun-screening and driving on a suspended license-DUI.
Stallworth was arraigned on Feb. 4 by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy, who set bail at $250,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on March 11 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Judge Duffy.
