Attempted Homicide Suspect Out on Bail, Awaiting Formal Arraignment

A Towamencin man facing attempted homicide charges has been released on bail, as he awaits his formal arraignment in county court next month.

Jeffrey Thompson, 47, of the 1600 block of Kriebel Road, is charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and reckless driving, in connection with the incident that occurred just before 6 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Court records indicate that Thompson was initially remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on Dec. 8 after failing to post $500,000 bail, but on Jan. 16, Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine reduced bail to a cash percentage of $99,000.

On Jan. 25, bail was posted in the amount of $30,000 and Thompson was released.

The original incident occurred in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank—located along the 200 block of West Main Street in Lansdale—in early December. When police arrived to the scene, they discovered that Thompson, who owns a construction company, had allegedly driven his truck over a 47-year-old subcontractor from Perkasie. Police allege that the incident was preceded by an argument about money owed to the victim, who reportedly stood in front of the truck until Thompson intentionally accelerated and drove over him.

The victim sustained multiple injuries, and was transported to Abington Hospital where he was originally listed in critical condition, according to Trail. The victim is continuing to recover from his injuries, according to sources close to the family, and a GoFundMe was launched soon after the incident.

Thompson will return to court on March 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse for a formal arraignment, at which point he will enter his plea.

(Editor's note: All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. Should the defendant choose to issue a public statement, or is later found not guilty or has the charges dropped, we will update this article accordingly.)
