Mayoral Musings: Uniting Behind Manna

This past weekend our town was put to the test. Would we let our differences define us? Would we let ourselves be divided over disdain and disapproval? Thankfully, the answer to those questions is no. Lansdale held strong. Our community might have disagreed on what was going on in the Library and on the street, but everyone was peaceful, safe, and free to express themselves.

I cannot say how grateful I am to Chief Trail and the whole police department for their vigilant service throughout the day and in the week leading up to the event. Hours of planning and organization ensured that everyone was able to peacefully assemble around the library in a safe manner and hear the story, if they wanted, in the library.

Moreover, Manna on Main Street collected 1,600 pounds of food from protesters and supporters alike. This is where I saw our community come back together. Regardless of what side of the line you were on, everyone recognized the need of those who might need a hand this winter. We may differ in many ways, but we are one community dedicated to making ourselves better. Supporting organizations like Manna ensures that Lansdale can continue to be a home to people of all socio-economic standings and we are all better for supporting their efforts.

I am sure there will be much more discussion on this topic going forward. However, I would like to just take a second and thank everyone for their donations to Manna, for their patience at the event, and their support of our town. Even if you disagreed with the event, you cared enough about Lansdale to show up and voice your concern and show you value our home. I appreciate that level of dedication and passion for our community. Looking ahead, we will continue to find common ground when we can and work together to keep Lansdale moving forward for all our residents.
