Lansdale Historical Society Presents ‘The 1980s: An Era of Reagan and Rubik’s Cubes’

President Ronald Reagan speaking in King of Prussia circa 1987.

The 1980s will be the subject of the Lansdale Historical Society’s next community program, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 pm at Lansdale Borough Hall located at 1 Vine St.

It is the second of a five-part series called “The Decades,” covering the news, trends, sights and sounds here at home and on the national level from the 1940s through the 80s.

The 1980s were an action-packed decade in many ways: it was a time of big hair, big phones, pastel suits, Ronald Reagan, Cabbage Patch Kids, Yuppies, Live Aid, Thriller and Pac Man. More importantly, it was an era of iconic moments that changed the world, from the U.S. hockey team defeating the Soviet Union to the fall of the Berlin wall.

We will look at the cultural, political and news events that shaped this decade, along with how they affected us here in the North Penn area—events like the end of the beloved West Point Park, or the conversion of the old Lansdale Post Office into a new Borough Hall.

This show will be narrated by Bill Henning. As usual, there is no admission charge but donations are appreciated.
