Local Tap Owner Discusses Successful Launch of Taproom in Lansdale

It’s only been six weeks since the official grand opening of Local Tap at the Pavilion Shopping Center in Lansdale, yet ownership is already taking notice to the strong sense of community within the borough, as well as the support that comes along with it.

“It’s been awesome, and the people have been amazing,” said Theresa Modestine, who owns the business. “We’re still building and getting the hang of things, but the people of Lansdale have been phenomenal. They’re the nicest people in the world, and they’ve been so welcoming.”

For the uninitiated, Local Tap is a bring-your-own-food taproom located at 527 South Broad Street, with roughly 50 seats in the main area, a backroom /private rental space with another 40 seats, and 20 rotating taps featuring an array of offerings from the Doylestown Brewing Company and featured local breweries including Round Guys, Well Crafted and Ten7.

Open seven days a week, Local Tap provides a warm, inviting space, with ambient lighting and period photos adorning the walls.

"We see this more as a tasting room for local beverages, more than a bar and restaurant,” said Modestine. "We take great pride in serving delicious locally-produced beverages, and we’ve always supported local businesses."

Modestine said the early returns have been great, citing a strengthening daily happy hour and creative events such as themed trivia and live music on the weekends serving a big draws for the taproom startup. On the food side, Modestine said that the addition of weekend food runners has gone smoothly, allowing guests to order food from nearby eateries, which is then brought to their table by the runners.

Additionally, Modestine said Local Tap has teamed up with a company called Second Kitchen, which allows guests to order food from Wister’s Barbecue on West Main Street, which is then quickly delivered to Local Tap.

“Everyone loves the space and says it’s fine the way it is, but we want to keep upgrading and improving our available options,” said Modestine. “The runners and partnership with Wister’s has definitely been a big hit.”

With the taproom going strong, Modestine said she has been focusing on upgrading the rear space of the establishment, including adding a painted mural and possibly bringing in food trucks down the road.

“We’re going to rent the space out for parties, showers, memorial luncheons, things like that,” said Modestine, adding they have already hosted events for both Merck and the Lansdale Borough Police Department. “We’re surrounded by businesses that provide catering, so for any budget minded person, its perfect for them.”

Last, but certainly not least, the Modestine Family is continuing their charitable efforts with Local Tap, by way of two different initiatives that organizations can choose from. The first being an in-house fundraiser held for the organization on a Monday night, with 10-percent of sales going to the cause, and the second being $1 donated for each R5 Lager that is sold throughout each month.
