Hatfield Man Identified As Victim of Fatal Crash on Interstate 80

Edward Posavec III, 52, of Hatfield Township.

A Hatfield Township man has been identified as one of the victims of a fatal multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 80 on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report by WKOK Newsradio 1070, state officials announced that 52-year-old Edward Posavec III was one of two people killed in the multi-vehicle crash, which occurred just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 18 in White Deer Township. Transportation officials said that a blinding snow squall created slick conditions on the highway, leading to a crash involving more than 20 vehicles that left two dead and three dozen injured.

Sources tell North Penn Now that Posavec—a graduate of North Penn High School’s Class of 1985—was on the phone with his wife as he waited for an ambulance to arrive. He then died on the way to the hospital, according to reports.

Posavec was the son of Katherine (Rosenberger) Fretz, of Sellersville, and the late Edward L. Posavec Jr., according to his obituary. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Oklatner) Posavec, his mother, two sons, Edward L Posavec IV and John B. Posavec, his sister, Pamela Haines (James), and nieces and nephews, according to the Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home.

Friends and family are invited to call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Christ Covenant Church, 2200 Mainland Road, Harleysville, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., according to his obituary.
