A Horsham man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly stole and cashed checks from his cousin in Hatfield Township.
According to the criminal complaint, police met with the victim on Sept. 30 at 4:15 p.m. regarding a theft. The victim advised police that they believed their cousin—identified as 30-year-old Nicholas Lackman—had stolen three checks, wrote them out to himself and later cashed them, the report states.
Investigators later received a surveillance image allegedly showing Lackman cashing one of the checks at a local bank, and the victim was able to identify the handwriting on the other two checks as Lackman’s, according to the report.
The total amount of the three checks that were cashed as $432, the report states.
As a result of the investigation, three felony counts of forgery, three misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and three misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property were filed against Lackman on Nov. 21, and he was subsequently taken into custody on Dec. 12.
Lackman was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. Lackman was then released from custody, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 24, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. in front of Judge Levine.
