Nearly 100 children with disabilities and their families made their way to Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley recently for the organization’s annual Holiday Party.
The holiday party was a way for Variety campers to reunite and reconnect with friends and reminisce about their time at Variety in the summer. It’s truly something the children look forward to each year.
This year’s party featured special visitors such as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman and Elsa from Frozen. Partygoers had the opportunity to meet these visitors and get their photo taken with Santa. Each Variety child was given a gift selected especially for them based on their interests. In addition, guests enjoyed music, a bounce house, cookie decorating, hot chocolate and a host of other activities, a number of which were sensory-friendly.
The Gambone Family, a long-time Variety supporter, was instrumental in making the party a success. Several food items were graciously donated by vendors such as Chick-Fil-A, Wawa, Gino’s Pizzeria and Martin’s Chips. Volunteers from Wawa, Hogs & Honeys and SEI were on hand to help with the day. In addition, 6ABC was a sponsor of the event.
Variety’s mission is to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities through social, educational and vocational programs that nurture independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life. Each year, hundreds of families eagerly await coming “home” to Variety for a summer full of rich relationships and engaging activities. Variety summer camps include day camp, overnight camp, extended school year (ESY) and vocational camp.
In addition, Variety’s proprietary workforce initiative, VarietyWorks, is making a difference in the lives of the young adults who are receiving valuable job training and independent job placement.
