Man Arrested with Large Quantity of Synthetic Marijuana in Montgomery Township: Police

An Emmaus man is facing felony drug charges after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a large quantity of synthetic marijuana during a traffic stop at the Speedway gas station on Bethlehem Pike.

According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police were patrolling northbound on Bethlehem Pike on Dec. 12 at 1:33 p.m. when they observed a van driving aggressively and weaving in and out of traffic. The report states that police caught up to the van as it was turning into the Speedway gas station and initiated a traffic stop.

Police approached the vehicle, spoke with the occupants and returned to their vehicle to perform a records check, the report states. As they were performing the checks, police observed a man—later identified as 36-year-old Dennis Carl—in the van’s third-row seat moving within the vehicle and hiding items around the seat, according to the report.

Police then re-approached the vehicle and asked the occupants to exit, the report states. After being given consent to search the vehicle, police discovered 73 separate bags of synthetic marijuana (K2 spice) that were separated into nine black bags, as well as heroin paraphernalia inside of Carl’s jacket, according to the complaint.

Carl was then taken into custody and charged with one felony count of possession with intent to distribute, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carl was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Christopher Cerski, who set his bail at $50,000 cash. Carl was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 7, 202 at 10:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
