The annual Upper Gwynedd Holiday Lights display was struck by vandals sometime during the overnight hours between Dec. 8 and Dec. 9.

According to their post on Facebook, members of the Upper Gwynedd Township Parks and Recreation Department had been working on setting up for this Saturday’s Holiday Lights event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pavilion at 1 Parkside Place, when they noticed that vandals had kicked over the decorations and smashed the lights.

“It is disheartening to see this,” said the Parks and Rec Department. “There is so much time and work that the staff puts in to make this event so beautiful.”

According to the post, the area will remain under surveillance going forward, and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department at 215-699-5862.

North Penn Now has reached out to Upper Gwynedd Township Police Chief David Duffy for more details from the incident, as well as the parks and recreation department regarding if they need extra volunteers or decorations to keep the event on schedule.

We will update this article as we receive responses to our inquiries.
