The Upper Gwynedd Township Parks and Rec Department has informed North Penn Now that, despite the recent vandalism during their setup period, the annual Holiday Lights event will go on as scheduled.
According to the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department, the vandalist occurred sometime between the evening of Dec. 6, after staff had left the area, and the morning of Dec. 7, when they returned to continue their setup and noticed the damage. Police said the damage occurred near the pavilion at Parkside Place, and some of the items require a rebuild/replacement.
Police said they are seeking public assistance in location the suspect(s) responsible for the vandalism, and they are currently reviewing surveillance footage that may help with their investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department at 215-699-5862.
Despite the setback, Parks and Rec Director Sarah Prebis said that the event will go on as planned, though she added that the department is asking the public to keep an eye on the location in the hopes of preventing further vandalism to the display.
Prebis said that they were working on fixing one of the items that was damaged, and they are also rebuilding another one. They have also reordered the lights that were damaged, and they are expected to arrive in time for the festival.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the pavilion at 1 Parkside Place. Aside from the annual light display, the event features horse carriage rides, games, music, face painting and more. Guests are also encouraged to bring a donation for Toys for Tots as a “fee.”
