An elderly woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and related charges on Saturday afternoon, after she crashed her vehicle into a commercial building in Lansdale Borough.
According to the press release from the Lansdale Borough Police Department, police were dispatched to the intersection of North Cannon Avenue and West Seventh Street at 2:44 p.m. on Dec. 7 for a report of a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, police located a red Mazda CX-5 up against the wall of a commercial building located at 651 North Cannon Avenue.
Police said that the operator of the Mazda, later identified as 75-year-old Judith Reitz, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and she sustained minor injuries in the crash. The release states that Reitz allegedly displayed signs of impairment at the scene, and was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and related charges.
The Mazda had to be towed from the scene, police said. Reitz reportedly consented to a chemical blood test, and the charges are pending the results of that test, police said.
In addition to the Lansdale Borough Police Department, members of the Fairmount Fire Company and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale assisted at the scene.
The scene was cleared at 3:43 p.m.
