Crews Responding to Apartment Fire at Schwenckfeld Manor in Towamencin

UPDATE: Aug. 30, 10:42 a.m. - The Towamencin Township Police Department has issued the following alert:

"There is police and fire activity in the area of Allentown Road and Weikel Road, resulting in the temporary closing of some roadways at that intersection. If possible, please avoid the area. If you must travel that area, please use caution as there are multiple emergency response personnel on location."

UPDATE: Aug. 30, 10:39 a.m. -
Sources tell North Penn Now that the fire has been placed under control. The source has informed us that the cause of the fire was a ceiling fan that caught fire, but we have been unable to confirm.
There is no report of injuries at this time, but the apartment has suffered smoke damage. Crews remain on scene, and Allentown Road is currently closed.

UPDATE: Aug. 30, 10:34 a.m. - Sources tell North Penn Now that the fire has not yet been located, but there is heavy smoke and an electrical odor in the building.

Multiple fire companies are on the scene of a structure fire at the Schwenckfeld Manor retirement community on Allentown Road in Towamencin Township.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1200 block of Allentown Road for a report of a building fire. Sources indicate that heavy smoke is showing from the east building.

There is currently no word on injuries.

Units from the Towamencin Township Police Department, Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, North Penn Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Fire Company and Lansdale Volunteer Medical Services Corps are currently on scene.
