Nearly 1,000 Kindergarten Students Attend First-Ever Full-Day Kindergarten at NPSD

North Penn School District (NPSD) welcomed nearly 1,000 new faces to the North Penn family at kindergarten orientation on Wednesday morning, as NPSD kicked off its first year of full-day kindergarten.

Full-day kindergarten orientation was held at each of NPSD’s 13 elementary schools for both students and families. To “ring in” the new school year, each school held an opening ceremony where principals, school board members and administrators kicked off the day by ringing an engraved bell to welcome NPSD’s first class of full-day kindergarten students and celebrating the newly developed program.

Following NPSD’s full-day kindergarten program theme, “Your Adventure Starts Here,” kindergarten students and families experienced a day of travel throughout their building using passports as their guide. Their adventure included four excursions to help explain a day in the life of a full-day kindergarten student at North Penn. Excursion topics included overviews of transportation information, a building tour, cafeteria time and a classroom experience.

In September 2018, the NPSD Board of School Directors voted to implement full-day kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. This program provides a strong foundation in literacy, mathematics, and social and emotional learning. Students will be afforded increased opportunities to engage in all content areas such as art, music, physical education, library, social studies and science. NPSD believes that all students can and will learn in a caring, nurturing environment so that each student is educated to their fullest potential.
