Hatfield Woman Charged with Aggravated Assault on Police Officer

A Hatfield woman is facing a felony aggravated assault charge following an incident that occurred along the 2900 block of Washington Lane early Saturday morning.

According to the criminal complaint, Hatfield Township Police were dispatched to the scene at 3:43 a.m. for a report of a female that was sleeping in the back seat of an Uber and refusing to exit. Once police made contact with the woman—identified as 22-year-old Nicole Brouse—they allegedly noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person. A portable breath test was administered that measured her blood-alcohol content at .21, which is more then 2.5 times the legal limit, the report states.

The complaint states that Brouse was non-compliant when asked to exit the vehicle, at which point police advised her that she was under arrest for public drunkenness, according to the report. Police said that Brouse tried to move to the opposite side of the vehicle as they attempted to take her into custody, and repeatedly attempted to pull away from them as they physically removed her from the vehicle, the report states.

Police were able to maneuver Brouse to the ground and place her in handcuffs, but Brouse allegedly continued to resist arrest and used her right foot to kick an officer in the upper-leg area four times, according to the report. She was then finally taken into custody.

As a result of the incident, Brouse has been charged with one felony count of aggravated assault, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest and one summary charge of public drunkenness. Brouse was arraigned on Aug. 10 by Magisterial District judge Gregory Scott, who set bail at $5,000 cash. She was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

Brouse’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine on Aug. 28 at 11:15 a.m.
