Crews Responding to Tractor Trailer Fire, Possible Fuel Leak on Bethlehem Pike (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Aug. 2, 1:09 p.m.: According to the Hilltown Township Police Department, one lane has been opened in each direction, as crews continue to work on cleaning up the spill. Motorists are still encouraged to avoid the area, or expect delays if traveling through.

UPDATE: Aug. 2, 9:25 a.m.: The Hilltown Township Police Department has released an alert stating that Route 309 southbound has been closed from Route 113 to Bergey Road due to the incident.

UPDATE: Aug. 2, 9:08 a.m.: We have received word that portions of Bethlehem Pike between Bergey and Church roads have been closed due to the fuel spill. Avoid the area.

Crews are currently on the scene of a tractor trailer fire on Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Township.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred at 7:39 a.m. near the intersection with Church Road. Sources tell North Penn Now that the fire was relatively minor, but smoke could be seen from as far as Sterling Drive.

No injuries have been reported, but we have received unconfirmed reports of a small fuel spill as a result of the incident. Sources tell North Penn Now that there has been fuel contamination in the sewer, and the Department of Environmental Protection has been notified, but we have been unable to confirm.
