Awaiting Court on Drug Charges, Suspect Gets DUI, Spits in Cops’ Face: Police

Mehdi Mollah, 23, of Lansdale.

A Lansdale man has been arrested for the second time in two months, after he allegedly spit in the face of a police officer during a DUI traffic stop early Saturday morning

Mehdi Mollah, 23, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated harassment by a prisoner, along with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a summary charge of driving on a suspended license, in connection with the incident.

According to the press release, Lansdale Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West Third and North Chestnut streets at 2 a.m. The operator of the vehicle—later identified as Mollah—exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from police, according to the release. Mollah reportedly showed signs of impairment, and was argumentative with police, the report states.

Police attempted to have Mollah perform a field sobriety test, but a few seconds into it, Mollah attempted to flee the scene on foot, the report states. He was then tackled by two police officers, who sustained minor cuts and abrasions while taking Mollah into custody. Later, Mollah consented to have his blood drawn for chemical testing, but when he was entering the hospital, he turned his head towards a police officer and spit in his face, according to the criminal complaint. Mollah then declined the blood test, the report states.

A search of the vehicle uncovered roughly 10 grams of marijuana, along with three empty 40 ounce bottles of Corona beer in the trunk, according to the report.

Later that day, Mollah was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Albert Augustine, who set bail at $20,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

Mollah was previously arrested on March 2 and charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and driving without headlights, following a traffic stop that allegedly uncovered 1.8 ounces of packaged marijuana inside the vehicle.

He was out on bail at the time of the DUI stop, according to court records. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on May 15 at 11:15 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
