Scent & Sip Named Lansdale's Business of the Month

Lansdale’s Business of the Month for April offers a one-of-a-kind experience with hundreds of creative options.

Scent & Sip, at 323 W. Main St., is a unique concept: A laboratory with wall-to-wall fragrances, which you combine to form your own personal scents to incorporate instantly into candles, colognes and perfumes, hair care and personal care items, such as sugar scrubs and mists.

And then there’s the sipping — a BYOB arrangement for all ages, from juice boxes to wine bottles.

"At Scent & Sip, you can create your own signature scent,” said Lansdale Economic Development Committee chair Carrie Hawkins Charlton, presenting the award Wednesday at Lansdale Borough Council’s monthly business meeting. "By experimenting with 150 fragrances plus 30 scentable products, the creations are endless."

Scent & Sip, which opened in February of 2017, is a locally owned, family-run small business operated by Jen Burnley along with husband Chris, daughter Abby and mother Joan.

"I personally am so excited that Jen and her family chose Lansdale as their location,” Hawkins Charlton said. "I love being able to pick up candles as gifts for friends and family, as well as just stopping in to say hello as I’m walking by and to check out their newest scents. I love their open, warm, and inviting atmosphere.”

Burnley continuously updates and adds to her fragrance array. "They have been doing research on what scent is popular and why at the moment," said Hawkins Charlton. "Jen has noticed that some scents may be related to cultural events and others have emotional feelings. The No. 1 scent for 2019 has been Rose–maybe the smell brings a little nostalgia as well as being hopeful."

Burnley, whose shop also sells pre-made products including candles, distributed a special sample to attendees of the Borough Council business meeting: small spray bottles of her own customized "Lansdale" scent. (She revealed the formula to North Penn Now as a mixture of mug-and-brush, hops and smoked ginger.)
